Top 5 Coen Brothers Movies

The Coen Brothers, Joel and Ethan Coen, have a huge following of fans who love their movies. These two men have worked together on virtually every project, and have created a wide range and variety of movies that are unforgettable. Out of all their movies, however, which ones stand out above the rest?

The following are the top five Coen Brothers movies, in no particular order (the movies are so different that making an order would be next to impossible).

"Raising Arizona." Starring Nicholas Cage, this classic comedy has some of the funniest, and most bizarre, moments of any movie. Cage stars as a convict who meets his future wife because she keeps taking his mug shot. They eventually marry and he tries to straighten out, but when they can't have kids, they kidnap one from a millionaire whose wife had quintuplets. A bizarre hilarity ensues, and this movie is often on the “Top 100 comedies of all time."

"Fargo." Fargo is a dark comedy about a kidnapping and ransom gone wrong. This movie is on IMDB's top 250 movies, and the mixture of scenes that are both hilarious and horrible all at the same time makes this movie a winner, and it won two Oscars. One for best original screenplay, and the other for best leading actress.

"The Big Lebowski." Few movies in the world have as amazing a cult following as “The Big Lebowski." This was a fantastic and strange movie following “The Dude" through his unlikely adventures. This film is filled with unique characters and quotable lines, and is one of the first movies a college student looking to “broaden the horizons" will have recommended to them.

"O Brother Where Art Thou?" This movie, starring George Clooney, is a hilarious film loosely based on Homer's “The Odyssey" and set in the Great Depression South. From a one eyed Bible salesman who beats up his robbery victims to the sirens, to the most hilarious and unlikely heroes ever, this movie is a fantastic and smart comedy that also manages its share of shtick.

"No Country for Old Men." This most recent Coen Brothers release has garnered a lot of attention and won multiple awards as the best movie of the year in 2007. This is a very dark film based on the book by Cormac McCarthy.
